Hello Dearest Family and Friends-
This week was a very interesting week. Sadly we had a family drop us but we also saw a lot of miracles this week. A less active family that the ward and missionaries have been working on forever are coming back to church together. The wife and husband’s relationship hasn’t been the greatest in a while but they are progressing a lot and doing a lot more things together, which is a huge miracle because there has been a lot of heartbreaking things that have happened to this family. But they are working on it together and are seeing that relationships are important and that coming to church will help their family heal.
Another Miracle. We have been working with this less active woman and her investigator daughter. The daughter was not able to participate in the lesson but we were able to teach this dear sister, who I absolutely love and hope to stay in contact with. She read chapter 1 of the Book of Mormon like we asked her too and she did! What is even more amazing is that she wanted to read more but because we told her to read one chapter she held off. Oh no! We told her if she wanted to read more that was totally fine! We just wanted her to read at least one chapter. That was funny. But she loved the first chapter and she says she is starting to see truth come out of the Book of Mormon as she reads. She has been meeting the missionaries for a long time and we have finally reached this step with her. If she sees the importance of the gospel, she will also see that it is important for her family. It is hard because she is a single parent and has to work a lot to support her children and their schooling. But I do believe that as she continues to feel truth and feel the spirit she will see why she needs to come back to church. She hasn’t come to church in over 10 years. Some things happened that made her completely forget about the gospel and why she was going and so she stopped. I think as we keep working with her, she will get to understand more. She works on Sundays and starts work at 10 am which is when church starts. Now we need to work on her faith and build it up so she can start coming back to church. The Lord is so amazing and I am very grateful that this was able to happen. We have been working so hard with them and I feel soon they will start seeing the true importance of the gospel.
On Saturday we had a really fun adventure with a potential investigator’s family. They have been coming to english class for the past few weeks. They are amazing! And also super Buddhist. They are really into Buddhism but they are probably some of the kindest people ever. I love them already! It is a daughter and mother, and her husband. Her husband is a world famous ceramics maker. I am not sure what to call him. They took us to this really fun, traditional restaurant, then to their house. They have a huge display of his artwork around their house. It was super fun and then we drank tea with them. It was fun being there with them and getting to know them more. They were super kind and gave us super expensive and beautiful ceramic cups made by the husband. I didn’t take a picture yet because it is still wrapped. They never give out gifts of his work so it was a huge privilege to receive one. He even made his own kiln, which is super cool! They are an amazing family. I hope eventually some day they will have interest in the gospel. I think they do but mostly just a curiousity of what we are and who we are right now. We will see.
I know the gospel is true. I know that through the Book of Mormon we can feel truth and have all of our questions, and worries answered. I was reading in this study book for the Book of Mormon. It is so good! There is a quote in there by Emma Smith. She was talking about Joseph Smith translating the Book of Mormon from the gold plates. Joseph Smith was pretty illiterate at that time in his life, he couldn’t even write a simple and coherent letter to anyone or read. But he was able to read and translate the Book of Mormon. If he didn’t know a word he would spell it out. Apparently he didn’t even know how to say Sariah but Emma would help him pronounce it. Then when he would spell things out and if she spelled things wrong, he would correct her and continue. He couldn’t even see her writing but was able to do that. Joseph Smith truly translated the Book of Mormon through the power of God. How could someone so illiterate be able to do such a thing. He couldn’t even write a simple letter to anyone but he was able to translate ancient scripture through the power of the Lord. I know that this book comes from God and is for us and our day. The Book of Mormon is evidence of God’s love for us. If God didn’t love us why would he give us a book to help and direct us. He knows us and knows what we need. I am so grateful for this opportunity to serve the Lord and help the people around me. I have realized more and more that I don’t have much left and that I am coming up on being on a mission for 11 months (same as Creedy) on tuesday. I cannot believe how fast time has gone! I hope I can continue to make the best of it.
LOVE YOU ALL TONS! Work hard this week in bringing someone closer to Christ. You are all amazing and I thank you for the love and support you give me.
