Sister Johnson and I in our grandma pants
Definitely Typhoon weather, right?
Hello Dear wonderful Family and Friends!
Hello from the Island of Jeju. Wow, I still can’t believe I am here! It is so amazing. One fun fact that I just found out about. Most of my family members and some friends will think this is fun, for the rest of you, maybe it will be fun. ^^ But my new companion, Sister Stewart, her older brother served with Jeremy Dance! (my cousin for those who don’t know) Super fun connection and they are both doing BYU Men’s Choir as well together. Fun tidbit that I learned just a few minutes ago.
Also, a lot of people commented on what I said about me being a Jeju missionary. I forgot to tell you all but the AP when he called told me why I was getting shipped of to Jeju because Jeju needs my light, happiness, positivity and brightness. I guess that might mean what a Jeju missionary is. I feel like a lot of the missionaries here are exactly what Jeju needs. I am grateful to know some of the reasons why I am here.
Sister Stewart and I!
I wanted to share a huge miracle of this week. Her name is Lee Hei Jin ( I don’t know how to romanize it, but it’s a try). She is one of our investigators and she is only 18 years old. She is super amazing! This last week we met with her about 3 times. She has so much light and is a wonderful person! This week we asked what her thoughts were about baptism. She said she knew it would be a great thing but she was nervous and had concerns about it. She was super honest with us and told us what she thought. She asked her if she would pray about and ask Heavenly Father if it was the right thing to do. She said she would. We felt the spirit so strong and she was so happy. She said she always feels good when she prays and reads the Book of Mormon, and when she comes to church. The next time we saw her she told us that she had prayed and wants to get baptized soooooooo bad! She said she prayed the night before and was just crying because she knew it was right and felt sooo happy. She said it was so weird because she was so happy but crying. I told her that is okay and that I do the same thing. She had a few more questions and we were able to smooth that over. She was worried about her family. I mentioned to her about some of the experiences of one of my companions and an elder I served with. The Elder’s family don’t really support him but they still love him. He is doing wonderful, got baptized at her age and is doing super well! She loved the stories I told and felt a lot better about it. We told her that everything will work out alright and that since this is the right decision everything will work out. She was so happy and said she was coming to church the next day. So, we see her at church and she was so happy. You can just see her happiness beaming out of her whole body. She loves coming to church and everything about the gospel. She knows it is right and she feels it. She is going to ask for permission from her parents if she can be baptized. She wants to get baptized on the 29th of this month! We are so happy for her and we were able to both share our testimonies with her about the gospel and Book of Mormon. It was so powerful and the feeling in the room was tangible. It was filled with happiness, love and peace.
I love being a missionary and I know this is where true happiness lies. It is in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have even noticed the change in our investigator only over the past few days and it is astounding. I am so grateful for this opportunity to serve with Sister Stewart and see this miracle. Sister Stewart is amazing!!!!! She is such a good missionary and works soooo hard! I am so privileged to be with her. We have become fast friends and laugh so much with each other. We work hard but still have fun while doing it. I love talking to people on the street. It is so fun sharing the gospel and showing who we truly are, which is Jesus Christ’s disciples. Yesterday, I was talking to this lady on the bus and she just decided to give me a whole big bag of little oranges! She was so fun and so kind. We talked about the restoration and I gave a pamphlet. We didn’t have time to get a number but at least I spoke with her. I love sharing the gospel with others. It makes me feel like I am being a true disciple of Christ when I open my mouth and share the gospel. We are seeing so many miracles here in Jeju. I am being incredibly blessed. I love the Lord and I love serving him. I love being a missionary. There is no greater calling. I know that.
I love the gospel. I know it is true. The best way to keep ourselves firm in faith is being firm in Christ. Pray, read, ponder, listen to the spirit, go to church, follow the commandments. Do ALL that you can do to build up your faith in Christ. I know this gospel is true with all of my heart. It is the best thing in the whole world.
I love the Lord, and I LOVE YOU ALL!
I am so grateful for you and for all the support, love, and prayers.
Love, Sister Orme
P.s Today we went to the beach and it was so beautiful!
Hello Dearest Friends and Family!
What a great week filled with inspiring and uplifting talks. I want to write all of my thoughts and feelings for every talk but alas there is not a lot of time. I wanted to go over the themes that I thought were throughout the general conference. There is a lot.
-Be firm and Steadfast in Christ. As we become more firm in him we are able to use his atonement. Through his atonement everything is made right. We are healed and taken care of by the atonement. Oh how ever grateful am I for the sacrifice that Christ did for us. There is no way that we would be able to move along in life without the Atonement. I know that it heals, comforts, strengthens, and builds us up to become who Heavenly Father knows we can be.
-Have your eyes toward the Temple. The temple is an expression of God’s love for us. We are able to feel his hand in our lives more as we attend the temple. Temples are a blessing for us and is a place of refuge from the world. We feel peace and the Holy Ghost more powerful there than in any other place.
On thursday our ward had a picnic! We hiked up a mountain and ate food at the top. It was a blast! One of our investigators was able to come!
It was beautiful! Family, we are going when we come to Miryang!
At the top there is this old fashioned fire signal structure for war. It reminds me of Lord of the Rings. It was so amazing!
-Be ready to stand and have courage to be firm. As the world is ever so changing it is important that we stand strong and firm in our beliefs. I know that this gospel has always and ever will be a blessing in my life and in the life of those around me. I see the blessings of it everyday. I see it as it touches people’s hearts as they become willing to follow the Lord because they know it is right. I like the quote by C.S. Lewis: “Courage is every form of virtue and the test of all things”. What a great quote. I love it and hope that every time there is a need for courage that we are able to use it and stand firm. The lord is always there for you.
-Know that God loves you and he wants to give you blessings. He will answer your prayers. I believe this to be very true. I saw it in my life this week. I had questions that desperately needed to be answered. Through my prayers, and through our leaders my questions were answered. I cannot describe the joy that I felt as I recieved those answers. I know that because God loves me, and loves each and every one of us, he wanted me to feel comfort and receive answers to my questions. I am forever grateful to the Lord. I know he is ever mindful of us. It is us that have to recognize his hand in our lives. Life is not easy but as we see the positive things that have happened in our life, those bad parts go away and seem less important. I know that this time is for us to grow and learn. We are being refined and becoming our full potential. I know everything happens for a reason. I know that as we strive to learn and grow from what life throws at us we will be able to come out stronger and more powerful then ever before.
-Prepare our testimony to become a strong testimony. We need to daily make our testimony stronger. We cannot uplift others if we are not uplifted ourselves. As we strengthen our testimony we are able to understand the reasons for all things and why this life is so important. We are here to prepare to meet God and also prepares ourselves to live with him again.
-Share our light with others. We share our light with others so they can be blessed as well. I hope and pray that every person I meet in this life sees that light within me. I strive to make them feel important and loved. As we add more light to our light, we are able to strengthen and share our light with others.
-Do family history work because we are eternal. Family History work is so important. I find it’s significance in the fact that we all can become an eternal family. I am grateful that the Lord has provided a way for us to be together as a family forever and to be able to see those loved ones, who have passed away, again. I know that we will see those who have passed away and we will be able to be with them again. I think of my grandparents on both my parent’s sides. I cannot wait to be able to see them again and rush into their arms again. I am grateful that there is no end to this life but it continues and it continues with our loved ones.
-Listen to the Lord’s Servants. As life gets harder and more difficult it is becoming more and more important to listen to the Lord’s servants. The Lord’s Servants have the voice of the Lord. “Whether it is by my own voice, or by the voice of my servants, it is the same” (Bible- Amos 3:7). The Lord speaks through his servants. They speak the word’s of the Lord. The Lord is giving us guidance and counsel. We will be protected and taken care of, if we heed their voices.
-Obedience. Why do we need to obey God’s Commandments? I think the Lord knows better than we do. I believe that to be true. As we remain obedient, we are able to recieve all the blessings that the Lord wants to give us. I know that as we strive to be as obedient as we can, we will be more blessed than we could ever imagine.
-Prayer and Scripture Study. Daily Prayer and Scripture study will be a shield of protection. I know that through prayer and scripture study we can receive answers to all of our questions. Our questions of the truth of this church can be answered by prayer and scripture study. We cannot know if this church is true, without these things.
-Distractions and Choices. The world is becoming ever more distracting as there is more technology and things to be busy and distracted with. What is the most important? Are we making choices that help us for good or for bad? There are always good choices but what is the best choice? I am always reminded daily of what is the best choice as we plan our day. I know that as we choose good choices our life will be blessed and we will be happy.
I have had so many questions answered and confirmed to me this week because of General Conference. I am grateful for the inspiration of church leaders because I know that the Lord loves us so much that he wants us to feel comfort and wants us to receive answers to our questions. In the Women’s Conference I loved watching the cute little koreans and I couldn’t feel more amazed and happy that I have been called to teach the Korean people. They are so special to me. I know this is where I am supposed to be.
Here is a link to Conference if you want to listen and/or read. I know that everyone who listens will be blessed. You can listen and/or read it in any language!
I was reading an article in a church magazine called The Liahona. There was a story in there that I really liked. The main person in this story is a man. His wife was a member of this church and he supported her and sometime would come. He loved bringing the missionaries over to bash them with questions and tell them how wrong they were. He thought he was close to getting to be with his family all sunday rather then it being filled with religion. One night as the missionaries were talking to him, he was bashing them so much that the missionaries said they couldn’t teach him because he wasn’t willing to listen. That same night he looked at the Book of Mormon on the table and said to himself “This book is either going to change my life or I will have just wasted a few minutes trying to find out”. As he was reading he felt the power of this book and believed it to be true. It had changed his life and the life of his family. He eventually joined the church and his been a blessing ever since then.
I know this church is true! I am so grateful for missionary work. I know the Book of Mormon is true. I am grateful for the power, strength, and comfort that come out from reading the Book of Mormon.
I LOVE YOU ALL TONS!!!
Love, Sister Orme
One more thing. This talk is great for people who are wondering why we do missionary work!
Love you all!
Hello Dearest Friends and Family-
News to the mainland! We have survived the really intense and powerful typhoon. We had a raging typhoon hit our area. We were so worried about what we would do for missionary work. The sprinkles/hot sun were waaaay too much for us. But seriously, we had warnings of a typhoon and a lot of stores were closed. Apparently the typhoon suddenly changed direction and didn’t hit Korea. It did rain a lot this week though. It is monsoon season right now so it rains a lot! But so far we haven’t had any flooding yet, which is nice. It so humid and hot though. It has been this way for the last few weeks since I have been here. We basically sweat all day and we are sticky. Kind of gross but we just kind of deal with it.
Well, I can seriously eat ANYTHING now. This week was not super adventurous but we ate raw fish. It was cut very fine and was super long and stringy. Then we had a soup with a whole fish cooked in it. Eye balls and all. It wasn’t bad.
We went on a branch picnic last, last Saturday. It was soooo fun!
Sister Johnson and I in our grandma pants
It was a really good week! We got 3 new investigators this week! We are doing the 30/30 program with them. 30 minutes English and 30 minutes Gospel. Sister Johnson, on our second visit with the 3 of them, decided to ask if they had any questions for us. One of them asked why there were so many churches and why were there so many different beliefs…..ohh. Such a good question that we can TOTALLY answer. So we went into the first lesson. The spirit guided us so well, it was seriously all the Lord. We talked about how when Christ came to this earth he established his gospel. We compared this to a puzzle. There are all of these different things that make up the gospel but when Christ left and his apostles were killed people took parts of his gospel but didn’t have everything. there is something missing in each church. Then we went into the Joseph Smith story. It was sooooo powerful. So good. It was intense and you could feel the spirit so strongly. We then bore our testimonies and then they all had to leave because they needed to go pick up kids and make dinner. Seriously, such a good lesson!
We made rootbeer and I was wearing a ridiculously awesome outfit. Grandma pants and grandma shirt combined. Wooh. Lookin good. haha.
Definitely Typhoon weather, right?
This week I read 3 Nephi 19:25. So good. Continues with my Christ’s light study. Here is the scripture: “And it came to pass that Jesus blessed them as they did pray unto him; and his countenance did smile upon them, and the light of his countenance did shine upon them and behold they were as white as the countenance and also the garments of Jesus; and behold the whiteness thereof did exceed all the whiteness, yea, even there could be nothing upon earth so white as the whiteness thereof.” Wow, if we could shine a light that bright, in reality people would actually be blinded, but if we could shine the light of Christ that bright people will be drawn to us. People who have even the smallest amount, which is everyone, then they can be drawn to. It is amazing the influence Christ had on people. Even though Christ is not on the earth now, we can definitely be representatives of him and put his light into our own hearts. After we put the light in our hearts we can share. Sister Gilbert always talked about giving out and sharing that light within you. Don’t be scared to shine or show it or give it! We are given the responsibility to do so. “How great is this work” !!! It is the best. I know I say it every week but I want everyone to know, that I LOVE MISSIONARY WORK! It is the most fulfilling thing ever. You don’t even have to serve a full time mission to do missionary work. There are so many different ways you can do it. Find those ways and do! The gospel is about doing! There is no such thing as idleness in the gospel. The work is hastening and we are here to help that work move forward. Go out and do!
I LOVE YOU ALL SOOOOO MUCH!

Hello Dearest Family and Friends-
I first want to tell you all that I love you all so much!
So, these past two weeks in Miryang have been sooooooooooooooo adventurous. Sister Johnson and the Elders don’t know why it has become so since I have came. This week we had another food adventure…..I can seriously eat anything now. Nothing is going to ever scare me. Korea has done a good job with that. Well, this animal we actually own at my home in California…yep. I ate Chicken Feet this week. So, weird. Basically they are just cartilage. They look sooooo weird! The Elders were just waiting for me to eat it. We were at an old grandma members home and the Elders were like have you tried the chicken yet? In korean to me so I had to answer so the grandma would know that it was delicious. I ate it and was like what the? what is this? It looked like chicken skin to me because it was covered in sauce so you couldn’t really tell and they after I was done eating it they said Welcome to Korea you just ate chicken feet! So awesome! It is not as bad as I thought chicken feet would be. But still not very delicious and there is no meat. I am just grateful there were no nails on the chicken feet.
The Elders and us on an adventure last Monday
Anywho, we celebrated the 4th of July in our own way. It was fun and we dressed up in red, white, and blue. We drew some flags and carried them around with us and took photos with them. So fun! I hope everyone had a great 4th of July!!!!!!
I was studying a lot about being disciples and being lights to others this week. The scripture above is 3 Nephi 15:12. Another scripture I want to share is 3 Nephi 18:24 “Therefore, Hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up…”. I love these scriptures. As disciples and representatives of Christ we must hold up our light to others. That light is Christ. As disciples it is our duty to show that light and to share it. I love how we can be that light and hope with people. Make sure that your light never dims which is your foundation in Christ. He is the most surest foundation and if you have it based on him your light will NEVER die. He is the only way.
I LOVE YOU ALL SOOOOOOOO MUCH! I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY!!!!
