Week 45- Transfers and Jesus Christ

Hello Dearest Family and Friends-
You would not guess where I have been transferred! It is called the Hawaii of Korea. Yep, I have been sent to JEJU Island! So fun! I am follow up training Sister Stewart! She is so great. She is from Spokane, Washington! So fun. We have talked about Washington and our love for that state. Jeju was my trainer’s, Ashley Benbrook, first area! So, it is fun to have it be my last area. I am so excited and grateful and I know this is where I am supposed to be. Everyone kept telling me that I was going to serve on Jeju and that I was a Jeju missionary. I still am not sure what the means but I have become a JEJU missionary. I am excited to see what this new transfer will unfold. Jeju will be my last area! So, that is really fun! I have only ever heard of good things about Jeju. So, I am happy.
On the plane to Jeju! It only takes 30 minutes!

Sorry, we don’t have much time but I wanted to share the article from this months Liahona/Ensign. It is called “Encircled in His Gentle Arms” By President Uchtdorf. Read it! So good! We have been really focusing a lot on Christ, well we always talk about Christ but we are expounding even more so, and so this message is perfect. Christ can heal us and help us through anything. He is the one that has suffered all and knows all! I like this part: “Though none of us will ever have to experience the depth of what our Lord suffered, we each will have our own dark and bitter hours-times when our sorrow and grief may appear to be greater that we can bear. There will be times when the weight and remorse of our sins will press mercilessly upon us. Even so, if we will lift our hearts to the Lord during those times, surely He will know and understand. He who suffered so selflessly for us in the garden and on the cross will not leave us comfortless now. He will strengthen, encourage, and bless us. He will encircle us in His gentle arms. He will be more than an angel. He will bring us blessed comfort, healing and forgiveness. For he is our Redeemer. Our deliverer. Our merciful Savior and blessed God”. I want you all to think about what the Lord, our Savior, has done for you. He has done it all. Please embrace him in your life and you will be embraced back and feel the love, mercy, and warmth that radiates from him.
He knows how we feel and what we go through. I am so grateful for him and love him. I LOVE HIM and he Loves each of us.
Love You all!

Week 49- New Companion!

Hello Dearest Family and friends!
This last thursday night we had our transfer calls. Sister Walker is moving and I am staying. I will miss her and I am grateful for the time that we were able to serve with each other. Well, I have a new companion and she is Korean! She is only my second korean companion. ^^ Her name is Jong Heh Min. She was Kim Da Jin’s (My trainee) MTC companion. So fun. She is so cute and she doesn’t know very much English so I will be learning a loooootttt of Korean! I am so grateful that I can understand korean and can speak Korean. Thank the Heavens for that because I am not sure how we would be able to communicate. 🙂 She is so kind and I am excited to work with her. I will know we will be able to accomplish a lot of things together.
Sister Walker and I heart attacked a Less active’s house and dropped off a treat. We were trying to meet with her but she wasn’t home.

Well, the day has come. I have to renew my foreigner card and that also means that in a little less than a month will be a year since I have come to Korea. February 28 was when I got here. I am amazed and astonished that time has gone by so fast. I am in my 9th Transfer and I only have 3 MORE TRANSFERS LEFT! (Including this one and this space of time is only about 4 months) If I think about it too much I freak out. I don’t want to go home (Sorry Mom and Dad! Of course I don’t mind being home but I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY) because Korea has become my home and where I have learned so much and have grown so much. I have come a long way and I know that I have changed a lot.
I am sorry but I don’t have much time but we are seeing miracles everywhere. Our areas are growing so much and we are continuously busy. I am grateful that we are able to serve here in Deashin and Keojong. Also, since there are no sister missionaries in 2 other areas in our district we kind of serve in those areas as well. If those elders need help, we help. So, 4 areas and two sisters, I love it and we are constantly moving. I love being busy and working for the Lord. I know that we are able to become more and more selfless as we serve those around us.
I LOVE YOU ALL TONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are the best. Thank you for all of your love, prayers and support. I can feel them and I see it manifested in the miracles that we see.

Week 31- Big Big News!

Hello Dearest Family and Friends-

Well, sorry I emailed late but we didn’t have time yesterday because we had alot of meetings for transfers. Sister Johnson and I got a call on thursday about the happenings for transfers. President Barrow called us. Sister Johnson is going to Tongyong, which is still in my zone! So super fun! I will still be able to see her. She only has two more transfers left! Wah! President Barrow also extended another calling to me. I am going to be a TRAINER!  He asked if I would accept it, of course I said yes, but in my mind I was saying “Wow! No! Not ready!”. I am deeply humbled and feel very privileged to accept this calling to train a brand new missionary. I am nervous because I am still really young in the mission and I don’t understand all of what people say still. Actually quite a good amount if they speak in a heavy accent. Which, because it is country, almost everyone does! So, I will be staying here in Miryang for at least two more transfers. Tomorrow we meet other new missionaries and thursday we find out who our new companion is. I feel very inadequate because I am still so young in the mission but I know that the Lord trusts me, otherwise he would not have called me to be a trainer. Anywho, we have been very busy cleaning and doing things for my trainee and getting Sister Johnson taken care of to move to Tongyong. I have decided that since the Lord trusts me, I don’t have to worry one bit. I decided I was not going to be scared and ever since I chose to not fear, I haven’t feared. The Lord is always ever mindful of us and knows who we are and what we are capable of. Even when we don’t think so. Trust in the Lord! He is always there for you! So, next week I will tell you this exciting news of what happens this week. My mind is still blown but I am slowly sinking everything in. ^^

I always say it, but I can never stop saying it. I LOVE MISSIONARY WORK! Miryang is booming with miracles and we have really good investigators who are willing and ready to listen, and follow the Lord. Of, course they have struggles but they are working on it. I feel like my new little, cute trainee will bring a lot of good things to Miryang. I know it! This last week we had 14 lessons and even 3 appointments were canceled! It is amazing what the Lord is helping us accomplish! I am constantly grateful for the Lord and how he helps us.

By the way, because there are so many Elders coming in, many people are white wash training! It is amazing. Sadly, 9 sisters left and there are only 6 coming in. I am excited for Sister Morrison to come in. I might not be able to train her group though, but maybe. Not sure. Maybe follow up train. We will see. 2 out of the 9 Sisters that left were my trainer and my follow up trainer, Sister Benbrook and Sister Yokum. 😦 I am very sad to see them go but now they are off to another mission. By the end of this year all of my companions will have left except for my trainee. It is sad. But all is good because I will get to see them again! ^^

Well, the Lord is the greatest and I love serving him. Have a great week this week and help hasten the Lord’s work by sharing the gospel to a friend! I LOVE YOU ALL!

1. Our awesome investigator! JonMinJeh. She met with the missionaries 4 years ago and she was an old record. We called her and just a month before she had come back from Seoul because she finished university. It was a blessing to find her. She is so ready and willing but needs to keep working on getting there. She is so close! ^^ I love her dearly and she has a great desire to change and grow.

2. Our District. All of the missionaries from Dogeh received a present from an investigator and it is a selfie extender pole thing. It is so fun! So that is why the photo is angled that way.
3. Elder Ralphs birthday. We surprised him with ice cream and then also planned a surprise party with the branch. They loved it and had never done one before. He loved it all!

Week 25- Haunted scrolls

Hello Dearest Family and Friends-
Wow, what a week. We were so busy! Mostly because we are planning a fantastic Mini MTC program that will start tomorrow and end thursday. It will be 3 days of teaching the members in our branch how to share the gospel. I am so excited and we are so happy to help this area grow. We know it will be a blessing. Unfortuneately our Korean Elder, Elder Moon, has transfered to a new area so we are hoping he will be able to come back for the second because we really need him! Our new Elder is Elder Hansen, He is our District leader and just switched with Elder Moon. We are excited to see how he can help push Miryang forward now that Elder Moon has helped so much. He was here for 4 transfers! So long. Sister Johnson and I are staying together! ^^ I will tell you more about it next week. 🙂
Cutest puppy ever! So gentle, so quiet and sooooooo cute!

This week I had some more fun eating adventures… I had jellyfish (soooo interesting, not sure how to describe the texture), raw beef (which tastes just the same when it is cooked, i guess that is good. ^^ people eat raw beef ALOT here), also raw fish again (as usual), then raw eel with the spine still in it (hard to describe the texture as well, it was interesting). Yes, I had all of this in one week and only 2 days out of the week. So, interesting. I literally can eat anything now!!! We also had this super terrible, bitter root drink that the Elder’s investigator gave us. They said it was good for our health. Sister Johnson said it is probably the worst thing she has ever had, she said she would rather have dog meat again rather then drink that again. She couldn’t finish it. It seriously was terrible, I just chugged it down! ^^  Ooh I love food adventures. I can eat anything now. Well, maybe.
Here is a picture of Gramps. So cute!

So, last monday we went to a buddhist store. So cool! Sister Johnson and I bought these really cool scroll things. Then we were looking at the front of them after we bought them, later that night, then we realized there were some words we didn’t understand on the front. We looked them up and they were super bizarre and kind of strange words. We called Elder Moon about them and he asked me how I knew those words. He asked me where I got them and I told him they were from the scrolls. Come to find out they were excorcist scrolls. What?!?! We were so shocked! We had no clue. They were soooo cool looking. He said one of the scrolls was an excorcist scroll, the other a calling of spirits scroll, and he didn’t talk about the other one. He told us to throw away the scrolls we had. We did the next day. So scary! We put them in a different room so they were not in the same room while we were sleeping. I am glad we had a Korean. I was wanting to get some for Creed because he loves that kind of stuff too, but I will get him something else. It is hilarious. 2 innocent Americans getting satanic scrolls. who knew? I am grateful that we have extra protection from the Lord. Phew! ^^

We met with Gramps (kim Jay Shik) this week. He is soooo cute. He is the 80 year old man we met. We gave him a Book of Mormon in English as well. He wants to meet again because we were only able to meet for 30 minutes because he had a random meeting to go to. We are also refferring him to the Elders in his area but he loves us so we will still see him occasionally. He has a great desire to learn. I love it!
This week’s weather has been crazy but good. We had typhoons again. The weather was perfect weather. Ahh the best! Then a TON of rain and them super heat. It is crazy this week.
I was reading the Priesthood Session talk by President Monson, the Be Strong and of a Good Courage talk. Wow, it is sooooooooooooo good. I was going to write the highlights but I forgot the talk at home, next week. It was so amazing. I LOVE THAT TALK. It is so important to remember that the Lord is always with you but to also stand up for what is right. Now, that it comes closer to the second coming and the hastening of the work, we must stand for what is right. Despite losing friends, family, job, etc. Those are all temporary things but yes they are hard things to lose as well. As we stand for what is right and what we believe we will forever be blessed now and for the eternities. It is now game time and we must prepared for whatever storms come. I love being able to say that we are missionaries and that we are here to serve the Lord. Time is so precious and this life so important. We must make the most of it and do everything we can to be on the side of the Lord. Did you all see the new Mormon message??? Wow, powerful. The Lord wants you on HIS SIDE TODAY! As we strive to be on the Lord’s side we will see the fruits of our labors. I promise you all that you will be blessed and taken care of. I know it will happen. Maybe not in the ways you think but it will come. Today is the day to choose who’s side you are on. There is no middle ground and you can’t choose both. I choose the Lord’s side. The other side is a dangerous side which will only lead to pain, sorrow, and loss of blessings. Which one would you rather choose. Definitely the Lord’s side.
Keep working hard and be the best people possible that you can be. I love you all! I appreciate everything that you are doing to be the best member, mother, father, missionary, friend, etc. You can do it! Remember the Lord will always remember you if you remember him.
I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!!

Week 18! I moved to 밀양 (Miryang)

Hello Beloved Family and Friends!

Well, I have been transferred from dear 신정 (Shinjeong). I am going to miss that place soo much but I am sooooo excited for this place. It is suuuuuuuppppperrrrr country. there is nothing out here! I am so excited and a lot of miracles are happening here and I will just see what the Lord wants me to do. My new companion is Sister Johnson. She and I know each other very well because we were in the same Zone for a long time.

This week we were super busy meeting with people and saying our goodbyes. I really do love the people of Shinjeong and they love me back. They are so sweet and kind. They were showing me sooo much love these last 5 weeks. They know that despite not being super perfect with Korean, I work hard and try to show my spirit and love in other ways.

I spoke and it went really well. I will give a summary of my talk:

So, I talked about the importance of coming to church. I shared my experience about when I was living in Russia about how long it took to get to church every week. It takes 3 hours each way and we had to take several steps to get there. We walked 5 minutes to the bust stop, then we waited for the bus (sometimes the wait time was 20-30 minutes), then we took a 30 minute bus ride to the metro, then an hour metro ride, then when we got off we had to walk for about 20 minutes. Each step was a little harder for us to give up and go home. There would be no point and we would waist a lot of time. There is a lot of steps we take in our eternal progression and each one makes it harder to go back because we understand that part of the gospel. There is no point in ruining the progress we have already made. I told them that God is always on their side and is someone that can help us in our eternal progress. I shared Joshua 1:9 and bore my testimony of the gospel and how true it is. The spirit was soo strong in that room.

I want to tell the background of why I told this story. I actually wrote this talk for one person only. I received inspiration on what I would write and what to share. Unfortunately, that person didn’t show up at all. It hurt my heart that this person didn’t come especially since we told her everyday that i was writing the talk for her. But I do know one thing, that despite this person not coming, it helped out a lot of other people. Sometimes we have times that are really disapointing and really frustrating but there is always going to be someone who is blessed because of it. I know that as long as we keep our head up high and trust in the Lord, we or someone will ALWAYS be blessed. You may not see it now but there is always a purpose to everything.

I love the Lord and trust in the Lord. He is our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ is our Advocate. I cannot share all of the things that I have learned because you all won’t understand the change it has wrought in my heart but I do know that the Gospel is true 100%. We all have different experiences that no one will truly understand but we can understand how the gospel can bless us and bless the lives of others.

I am excited to see what adventures await me here in 밀양 Miryang, but I know it will be amazing.

I LOVE YOU ALL TONS!!!!!!!
